These few past weeks, our class has been reading a book called Love that Dog where a boy named Jack starts out hating poems and eventually ends up liking them. If you want to read the book for yourself, then stop reading because I am going to give a spoiler. Through poetry, Jack ends up telling the reader about how he had a dog named Sky. He describes how much he loved that dog and then he eventually tells us how the dog dies. :( We also were introduced to real poems like Love That Boy and The Red Wheelbarrow. Jack’s teacher shared these in class. We also looked at shape poems like Apple which basically in the shape of an apple using words like apple and yum. That concludes what we are doing in reader’s workshop.
